Hydrangea 'White Knight'

Meet the showstopper of the season. Hydrangea ‘White Knight’ pairs crisp, pure white mopheads with striking near-black stems – a modern, high-contrast look that feels straight out of a design magazine.

Part of the Obsidian Collection, White Knight starts flowering in late spring, with blooms that can carry on into autumn. Even once the leaves drop in winter, those dark stems remain a sculptural feature. With a compact habit of around 90cm to 1.2m, it’s perfect for smaller gardens, courtyards and statement pots, and its white blooms stay true whatever your soil.

Pot size: 200mm

Why we love the Hydrangea 'White Knight'

Striking Black & White Contrast

Pure white mopheads on dramatic near-black stems create a bold, contemporary contrast. Part of the Obsidian Collection, ‘White Knight’ looks like it’s stepped straight out of a design magazine, and her white blooms stay true whatever your soil.

Compact & Courtyard-Ready

Compact at around 1 metre, she’s made for courtyards, balconies and statement pots. Style a pair either side of the front door or let one take centre stage on the deck for an instant, effortless lifestyle upgrade.

Beauty in Every Season

Long flowering from late spring, with sculptural dark stems that add winter interest. It’s the rare hydrangea that keeps your garden looking curated all year round.

About the Hydrangea 'White Knight'

Attracts Bees & Pollinators:

Her big, show-stopping mopheads are mostly a curated visual treat for us, though you’ll still spot the occasional local bee dropping by. For a true pollinator haven, our team loves pairing her with some of our bee-friendly Bayside natives.

Wind Tolerant

She prefers a sheltered oasis. To keep those generous blooms and lush leaves looking their best, tuck her away from harsh, drying coastal winds. A protected corner of the courtyard or a semi-enclosed balcony is her absolute happy place.

Flowering Season

An early and long performer! ‘White Knight’ begins flowering from late spring, and her crisp white blooms can carry on looking beautiful right into autumn. Even after the leaves fall, those dark stems stay a sculptural feature through winter.

Watering Needs & Drought Tolerance

Like all premium hydrangeas, she loves a refreshing drink and has a low tolerance for drought. Keep the soil beautifully moist with deep, regular watering through the warmer months, especially on hot, dry Melbourne afternoons, then ease right back over winter while she rests. A layer of mulch each year helps keep her roots cool and happy.

Fragrant

The ‘White Knight’ lets her colour do all the talking. She is generally unscented, which makes her a stunning choice to snip and bring indoors! Create a gorgeous table centrepiece without any fragrance clashing with your dinner party spread.

Mature Size

A beautifully compact performer, she grows to around 90cm to 1.2 metres tall and wide, and stays even neater in a pot. It’s the perfect proportion for courtyards, balconies and premium Cretan terracotta pots where you want maximum impact without taking over.
